The new School for Metal Construction Skills in Bhartiya Skill Development University will offer a range of skilled courses pertaining to fabrication and processing of metal parts for component manufacturing integrated with the science and technology. The graduates will be trained to the highest level of quality standards under this professional industrial education under supervision of Swiss Trainers.

Rise in infrastructure development and automotive production are driving growth in the metal processing and manufacturing sectors in India. The country also has a fair advantage in cost of production and labor. Under this rapidly expanding manufacturing sector in India, there is an increasing demand for skilled professionals. The BSDU Metal Construction School offers students a comprehensive training in different metal processing domains which include sheet metal fabrication together with different high end joining and welding techniques. The students will also be introduced to metal forming processes such as rolling, bending, forging, deep drawing etc. The core element of the training is on fabrication and welding various grades of steel and aluminum alloys for different structural constructions. The school believes that there is also a need for academics and research in the field of metal construction and fabrication to develop pragmatic solutions that are accessible to our industrial partners to address critical fabrication problems. The school is presently offering B. Voc program.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of the B. Voc program, the student will :

Infrastructure and Equipment

The school of metal construction skills has a wide range of welding and cutting equipment to handle all types of welding depending on the type of production. The availability of such varied equipment ensures that all welding requirements are met. The welding equipment available at the school could be used for training and demonstrations to produce specialized equipment used in ultra-high vacuum (UHV), steam, cryogenics, automotive, and others.

The school has Maxmig 400 CD and Champtig 300 AD machines. A Maxmig 400 CD used for metal inert gas (MIG) welding is commonly used for high deposition rate welding. Wire is continuously fed from a spool. A Champtig 300 AD dedicated for tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding serves to produce high quality welds. When it comes to high degree of precision, a TIG welding is a better option.

The workshop houses a Kjellberg CNC plasma cutter of high cutting accuracy and edge quality at higher cutting speeds. This automated CNC based machine carries a plasma torch that can be moved in a predefined path fed in the computer program. The program describes the contours of the part and when to turn the torch on and off.

The Mitre band saw from Indotech Industries India is one very important machine in the workshop. One of the key feature of this machine is that it accepts any type of saw blade for cutting different material grades and geometries. It is also easy to work with robust structure of materials and aggressive cutting parameters to achieve a high level production.

Other facilities for sheet metal operation in the school include a hydraulic press brake and a shearing machine supplied by Bhavya Machine Tools India. A press brake is a pressing tool for bending sheet metal and plate material at any bending angle. The shearing machine enables a fast cutting of the workpiece without sacrificing the cutting quality. These mechanical shears helps to feed the sheet and reduce markings on delicate materials. The design ensures that the shears provide a straight cut every time. These machines consume less power and require minimal maintenance. Further features include better precision, higher speed and lowest wear as well as free of noise and vibration.

The school is in process of setting up a cold forging press- 100 T and a deep drawing press- 50 T facility for training and demonstration of students. The institute will have many new machines and equipment of interest for advanced technology in coming years. The idea is to provide the highest quality of man power training in all areas of metal construction technology.
